a little valentine giveaway

I love valentine’s day. Not because of the romance part… {my husband is not exactly the gift-giving/flower-buying/card-writing type} …but because of the kid part.

Yup, you heard me.

I get valentines every year from nieces and nephews and other tiny tikes, and I adore the scribbled “love you” where the love is huge and the you turns sideways on the page because they ran out of room.

I smile over xx’s and oo’s and bright red marker hearts.

And I think valentine’s day is the best day in the world.

So, because I love it so much, I’m joining with a few friends for a mini-version of our “blog-hopping” Christmas giveaway. At the end of this post you’ll find links to a few other darling giveaways that I know you’ll enjoy.

In the meantime, just leave a comment at the end of this post and tell me a little valentine memory. Every comment will be entered in a drawing to win a little pack of farm animal valentines. (from my etsy shop, The Chic Farmer

My mom always did a Valentine’s Day version of her Christmas cutout cookies–sugar cookies with almond extract. They were heart-shaped, with pink, red, and white frosting, and she would make a lot of other food heart-shaped throughout the day. I remember from when I was very little a heart-shaped homemade pizza. My siblings and I always got cards and treats from my parents’ for Valentine’s Day. When I was growing up it wasn’t so much a celebration of romantic love as it was of the love my parents had for us.

Oh, Jaimie– what fun memories! I love the idea of heart-shaped pizza. I have two little boys hanging out with me that day and will plan to use some of these ideas!

I remember valentines as a kid. It was always such a special day to exchange cards with EVERY person in class. I think back now to how wonderful it was to have kind words from everyone you knew. Not sweets or flowers or extravagant jewelry… but many sweet words letting you know you’re special 🙂

I remember this too. We always had a blast on Valentine’s Day at school. 🙂

For a long time we didn’t really celebrate Valentines Day, but for the past several years my mom gets sneaky for the week before, putting together little goodie bags for all of us!

I’m really looking forward to Valentines Day this year for two reasons! 🙂 this year I am doing some planning to do my own little goodie bags and I have a very special someone to share it with! 🙂

Love the idea of goodie bags. 🙂
And yay! for having someone special to share it with. 🙂

I remember a Valentine’s Day when I was in my teens or early twenties…my older cousin was single and struggling, so I bought her a bouquet of purple roses (her favorite) and delivered them to the place where she worked. It was so much fun and so special. Ever since then, I think I’ve enjoyed doing little things for friends on V-day almost more than the times I’ve had a “special someone” for that day! 🙂

Oh, Laura, I love this! I did the same thing a time or two. It always blesses the giver as much as the receiver, doesn’t it?

Last Valentine’s day was my first “real” one and it came with a dozen roses from the sweetest guy I know. 🙂

      woohoo! So fun. 🙂

🙂 I love that each Valentine’s day is an opportunity to not focus on me 🙂 Some of my favorite Valentine’s Day memories include opening my home to local singles that don’t have any place to go or anything to do and getting to love on them :). game night! What topped the night was one of the guys showing up with a long stemmed red rose for every one of the ladies at the game night. What a guy! 🙂

I think, in some ways, I had more *fun* on Valentine’s Day when I was single. Lol! We had many such happenings around here and enjoyed them immensely. I adore my husband, obviously, but his arrival did not make Valentine’s Day better– it was always great! 🙂

I got chicken pox badly when I was in the third grade. I remember two things: the stash of valentines and candy that came home from my class…and much sweeter still, my daddy got me a heart-shaped box. He’s the bestest of daddys, but normally my mom picked out the gifts, so I’ve never forgotten it.

      Awe! That’s so sweet.
My dad got me a rose once for Valentine’s Day. I dried it and kept it my room for years. 🙂

As my 3 year old gears up for this valentine’s, she tells me she can’t wait because se she just loves me so much. *melt*

A few years ago, a friend from another country sent me a special handmade Valentines Day card. All the effort and love was really special to me!

    • Natasha Metzler February 6, 2013 at 8:19 am #

      How fun! 🙂

My favorite Valentine memory is the one 7 years ago…when my farmer slipped a ring on my finger. 😉

I remember often baking a heart-shaped cake. It was so easy with a square pan and a round pan, and cut the round cake in half and put the halves on two sides of the square….and pink icing. But I love the heart-shaped pizza idea too. We don’t really need so much cake…maybe I’ll do a heart-shaped jello salad. I liked our valentines at school better than many of the ones available today. These days there are a lot of strange valentines out there! Thank you, Natasha!
