things i love about my husband {19} work
Kids ask him the question quite often. Their little foreheads wrinkle up and their eyes narrow and they say, “Why haven’t you washed your hands?”
He gives them all the same answer, his eyes twinkling a bit, “I did wash them but look,” he scrubs them hard together and then holds the blacken palms out again, “this kind of dirt just sticks right to you. It’s called work.”
One of the first things I fell in love with was the fact that my husband works hard and his hands show it. We still laugh over the wedding picture with me in the creamy white dress and his stained hands wrapped around my waist. He told me later, “I scrubbed and scrubbed them. Even soaked them in bleach!”
I smiled and said I was glad they didn’t cleaned up. Because his work is part of who he is. And I love it.
The Challenge:
My friend, Trina, has a beautifully designed ebook that is evidence of her husband’s hard work and abilities. {my husband has just recently learned how to turn on the computer.}
My friend, Delite, has a husband who gets up at crazy hours in the morning to go to work. {my husband sleeps in most mornings.}
I have a friend who loves the fact that her husband has calluses on the tips of his fingers from playing guitar. {my husband’s eyes cross when I start talking music.}
I have another friend who has a husband that can cook gourmet meals that make your mouth water just hearing about them. {my husband can fry crispy hamburgers and made a kickin’ side of goulash.}
Everyone is different. But I’ll bet there is something unique and wonderful about your man.
What is there in your husband’s life that marks who he is? (and have you told him that you love that thing about him?)
Actually… something that marks my husband for who he is… is his big beard. It drives him nuts sometimes. He doesn’t personally like the way it looks or feels very much. But he feels like God has called him to grow it, so he does.
I personally think it’s quite manly! So he doesn’t get any complaints outta me for it! 😉
Anyway, that’s how people around here describe him. He’s “the big guy with the big beard.” (and the big teddy bear heart, but don’t tell him I said that!) 😉
*smiles* I like my husband’s beard as well. 😉
What a wonderful series, Natasha. Thank you for your persistence in looking for the beauty in your man, and in so doing, encouraging us to do the same in our’s.
My husband is an Eagle scout, and LOVES being outside, camping, and “roughing it.” A lot of that includes stuff I have no idea how to do. It’s amazing. There are some things I do better than he does–writing or cooking–but in this he surpasses me. That, and he has an amazing voice and can even sing vibratto, something I will never be able to do, and he makes way better chocolate chip cookies and pizza than I do. 🙂
Jeremy has never understood what I mean when I say I love his hands, I always new I was going to be with a man with big, calloused, stained, hands. God knew what he was doing when he gave us our husbands, this is great Tasha. I read it to Jeremy and he said you sound like me 🙂
