Parenting with Scripture {book review}
Parenting With Scripture
A Topical Guide For Teachable Moments
When Moody Publishing opened up their new blogger review program I was incredibly excited. Over the years they have put out some amazing books and when I saw the title of this one, I couldn’t resist. No, I don’t have children but I work with many, many little ones. Parenting with Scripture is a wonderful handbook to have around.
Recently we had an issue with one of the little boys that I watch. He slipped my husband’s pocketknife into his backpack and his parents found it the following day. They called us up and said, “We’re not sure how you want to handle this but here’s what happened…”
Parenting with Scripture made our job much easier. When he got off the bus that day, my husband was waiting with a Bible and this book opened to the section on “stealing”. He was able to go through the definition of theft and together they looked up several of the listed Bible verses. My husband was able to glance at the list of questions as they talked, making sure that they covered each angle of the situation.
It ended up being an incredibly meaningful time, with a chance for them to bond and my husband to offer forgiveness.
In each chapter of Parenting with Scripture there is a definition, a list of Bible verses on that subject, discussion questions and a “take action” section. Many also have several “parenting tips” with valuable ideas for dealing with the behavior or utilizing the teaching opportunity.
I found the book handy, easy to navigate (subjects are in alphabetical order), and visually pleasing. There is also a list of 15 verses to memorize with your child, memorization tips and ideas for praying Scripture for your child.
This book is definitely going on my “gift list” for new parents!
I received this book in exchange for my honest review from Moody Publishers.
We LOVE this book! 🙂
Sounds like a great tool for anyone who spends much time around children. Thanks for sharing.
