the wonder of {new} life
With evening comes new life.
One of the two cows left to freshen before fall drops a heifer calf. She’s born with stubborn built-in and fights the rope I slip around her neck. Her muscles tense and I laugh at her antics. Her mama calms her down with swift licks.
Life is born in blood.
I scrape the after-birth into the gutter, pleased that she cleaned so easily. The baby calf looks at me through large brown eyes.
It is evening, late, and I feel like I just took the first breath of morning.
Sometimes life is dirty and messy, sometimes even bloody,
but, in Him, there is new life, light, morning–
even when everything seems pitch black.
That’s the wonder of knowing the Savior.
That is the ultimate redemption.
