Eyewitness
This past weekend, we were getting ready to leave for a trip to Pennsylvania. We knew the trip was coming, were planning on it, and then all of our vehicles went down– the week before we were suppose to leave. Seriously.
There was no way we’d be able to afford to fix the (very) expensive issues our trucks just acquired, nor could my foreign-made car miraculously produce a fan that worked (to keep it from overheating) before the day we were suppose to leave. And I’m going to be honest with you, I was perturbed. Seriously.
But somehow, I’m learning (little bit by little bit) to slow my steps and say quietly, “Lord, our lives are yours, and we believe that You are in control– above all else. And if you want us to stay right here, skip the trip, spend the money, whatever– we will do it.”
And then, the day we needed to make a decision about what we were going to do, someone called. They had this van that they wanted to donate to someone. Donate. And they wondered if we’d be interested.
We left on our trip Thursday night in a vehicle that ran well, had brakes (handy things, these are!), and was completely provided by the Lord.
I couldn’t help but think about this today as I read 2 Peter 1. Peter claims that he is an “eyewitness” to the majesty of God. And he tells the people, “remember these things.”
We’re all eyewitnesses of something. As a follower of Jesus, I believe the most important thing to bear witness of is God-at-work today. And my job is to speak about it. To remember what He has done, and to remind others to remember as well.
This past weekend, I was an eyewitness of God’s miraculous provision for our family.
It’s not always comfortable to bear witness to what God has done in our lives. I’d much rather say, “Oh, yeah, we’re great managers and we always have the money to fix our vehicles or buy new ones.” But who, truly, would that bear witness of? Me. How much better, instead, to say, “Oh, friend– listen to what God has done. Listen to how He has taken care of us, when we were out of options.”
To bear witness of HIM.
And sometimes it may bless those listening, but many times it is just for me. For my weak and faltering heart. The gentle waves of the Father’s voice saying, “Hey, I’ve got this. You just follow me.”
We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. Amen and amen and amen.
I am just loving all of your word snacks! Keep them coming! xo
Great devotion, Tasha! You’re helping me to slow my steps a bit today.
